Deal and Walmer Branch
by Sue Le Chevalier
In November, the Men of Kent Association was represented at both the Remembrance Day Service held at the War Memorial, Deal Hospital and the Armistice Day Service at Hamilton Road Cemetery.
The County Standard was carried at both services by John Hardy. Our own Branch Chairman Mrs Carol Stickler laid a wreath at both services to remember the fallen of two World Wars and many other conflicts since. Pictured are Branch Members at the Hamilton Road Armistice Service.
Ladies Lunch at Deal & Bettshanger Rugby Club on March 9th 2013. The AMKKM sponsored the Match that day: Deal & Bettshanger 18 vs Medway 18 Prior to the match 48 Ladies sat down to a delicious roast beef lunch in the Club House and we were made very welcome by Kate Frorath and Trina Orlov who organised the splendid lunch.
In the photo are Senior Coach David Wiggins, AMKKM Fair Maids Cassie Tice-Robinson, Bobbie Barker and Carol Stickler and Adam Michael, 1st XV Captain under the Match Signage.
First of all I would like to thank the committee for all their hard work throughout the year and once again standing for another year of office and thanks to Sue our Web Master for creating a truly fabulous Web Site for the Deal &Walmer Branch, which you can find by clicking here. Past event photos are there for you all to see and upcoming events for the branch along with contact details.
My thanks also go to John Hardy our Standard Bearer for attending the many events this year to represent the Deal and Walmer Branch with our Standard, thank you.
Trafalgar Day this year had a wonderful attendance and we were supported once again by ATC 2235 Squadron who played prior to the service in the High Street and then in the Garden of Rest following the service. In the Garden of Rest we were able to see the Oak Tree which was planted to commemorate the Queens Diamond Jubilee in association with The Deal Society and Deal Town Council.
Our next event is our St Georges Day Dinner, once again returning to the Three Compasses for a Dinner of Traditional English fare, I do hope that you will be able to join to celebrate the occasion.
The County Spring Lunch is on Wednesday 3rd April at Hadlow Grange and the County AGM is July 13th in Whitstable. Also please support the County Night at the Dogs in Sittingbourne on Thursday 20th June, we have booked a coach, so do book early to secure your seat.
This year we have pledge to support The Martha Trust, they have organised a charity car challenge - Rome or Bust! Sue along with Paul and their our co-pilots Bill and Mary Venables, also supporting members of the Branch will be setting off on Saturday 14th September and have just three days to drive from Dover to Rome.
You may be asking where's the challenge? Well, one of the conditions is that the car must cost no more than £200. AND this no free holiday, the team pay for the car, road tax, MOT, fuel, tolls, repairs, of which I hope there are not too many, food, accommodation and the flight home. The proviso is that they are committed to raising at least £3000 for the Martha Trust in order to take part, we the Deal and Walmer Branch are delighted to help them realise their challenge and wish them the best of luck, just as well that Paul is an A1 mechanic if they are driving to Rome in a £200 car!!
Once again thank you all for attending the 2013 AGM, a finger buffet is prepared for you downstairs; the pay bar is open, we look forward to joining you presently.
With many thanks for your continuing support of Deal and Walmer Branch.
